Arthur Henry was born on 2 June 1883 at 2 Festing Terrace, Eastney, Portsmouth to Henry TOMASIN and Mary Jane COLLIS. At the 1901 census his occupation was shown to be a Scholar - Pupil Teacher and he was living at 10 Eton Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire. He married Annie Elizabeth PURCHES on 27 June 1907 at St James Church, Milton, Portsea, Hampshire. They had seven children between 1907 and 1915. Arthur qualified as a dentist prior to the Dentist Act of 1921 after which he was recorded in the Dentist Register with Certificate No 16633. He had a good reputation despite using antiquated equipment and, with the assistance of Mr Eames, a local Police Sergeant who was also a very skilled dental mechanic, built a fine reputation amongst local denture users. The family set up home at 24a Union Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight where he practiced as a dentist. He moved his home and his practice to 16 Union Street between 1909 and 1911, and moved again sometime between 1912 and 1914 to 60 Union Street, before a final move to 39a High Street before 1950.. He is also believe to have sired two children with a servant, his children's nurse Eilen Amelia (Nellie) BOWBRICK, between 1916 and 1919. Always a little eccentric, Arthur had an obsession with other peoples' diets and read extensively, although rarely returned the books to the library or disposed of his newspaper collection! He was a regular at the Star Inn next door to his practice at 39a High Street and was renowned for drinking a mixture of stout and fresh milk! Arthur Henry died on 8 January 1961 at St Mary's Hospital, Newport, Isle of Wight of Cardivascular degeneration.
